About

Julia L Wright has lived in Manitou Springs, Colorado since 1976.

She experienced two floods in 1997 and 1999 and an evacuation from a nearby fire in 2013.
Julia shares her true stories about these floods and the very short notice evacuation in “Lessons From Past Floods” printed in March of 2013.

She learned some very important lessons, which she shares in this book, about how everyone should and can be better prepared if you experience a Natural Disaster.

Photographs of restored historic buildings that were almost destroyed by flood or fire demonstrate how, with a bit of faith, vision and investment, by people who believe in their intrinsic value can be beautifully repaired to be useful and enjoyed for many years.

Don’t get caught unprepared when Mother Nature displays her ugly side.
Use this book as a guide to prepare your family to survive any Natural Disaster that occurs in your life.

2013 Additional Information

After experiencing numerous floods in 2013 in Manitou Springs, on Highway 24 and the surrounding areas, Julia will be writing a sequel to this book.
Even she wasn’t as prepared as one would hope to be when experiencing flooding of the magnitude that raged through the area all summer long.

Julia had to relocate the Commonwheel Artists 39th Annual Labor Day Arts & Crafts Festival in just 3 weeks when muddy raging flood water covered one fourth of the park the event had been held in for the past 38 years. At the same time the Commonwheel Co-op was digging out 3′ of mud that was left in its basement after the water level had reached its rafters. These stories and more will be in the sequel.

The community of Manitou Springs is very resilient, and is taking many steps to mitigate flooding in the future. We are visualizing a drier 2014.

And the sequel has been delayed, but will come in the winter of 2017.
